Background

Sidu is a MOOC (massive open online course) designed for foreigners learning Swedish in Finland. The course covers Finnish-Swedish history, society, and culture, while sharing stories of how people from around the world have learned Swedish and adapted to life in Finland. A key focus of the course is on locations and Finnish-Swedish regions, which is reflected in the logo design.

Visual Identity Elements

The visual identity was crafted to be fun, lighthearted, and accessible, in line with the course’s open nature. The logo features a location icon both above and below the name “Sidu,” symbolizing exploration and a 360-degree view of Finnish-Swedish culture.

A crucial part of the identity involved designing a clear PowerPoint slide template, allowing content creators to easily produce informative and cohesive presentations for the MOOC.

Videos had a big role in the MOOC and below you can see some of the thumbnail designs. In these videos foreigners, who live in different parts of Finland, share their stories and thoughts on learning Swedish and living in Finland.

Jenni has been invaluable to our project. Even when we didn’t quite know what we were looking for, she understood our needs and created designs that suited us perfectly. She has always been prompt and communicated clearly. Overall, she has been a super professional and great colleague.

Key Learning Outcome

This project taught me how to create a playful yet effective logo, while giving me the time to deeply explore various design ideas. Every preliminary concept could have worked as the final logo, and the process allowed me to experiment with how different elements—colors, shapes, and styles—interact.
